STURBRIDGE - The Friends of Sturbridge/Fiskdale Seniors will hold an Antiques Appraisal Day Sunday, April 11, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Senior Center on Main Street in Fiskdale. The program will feature Henry Callan, a member of the New England Appraisers’ Association and well-known lecturer and teacher.
The cost is $5 per item with a limit of two items, profits to benefit the REAS Foundation - a program that helps seniors meet their heating expenses during winter. For anyone wishing to attend without an item to be appraised cost is $3. This will also be donated to the REAS program.
Area residents may bring antiques and collectibles to be verbally appraised by Callan. He can accommodate up to 100 items, two per person, but does not appraise stamps, coins, or jewelry.
If an item is too large to bring to the Senior Center, good quality photographs are acceptable. If an item is a piece of furniture bring in a drawer or door in addition to photographs to help determine the type of wood in the item.
This is a perfect opportunity to find out the value of an old family heirloom or perhaps an interesting artifact from an attic or yard sale.
Callan resides in Sandwich, Mass. He holds Master’s Degrees in both Library Science and History and is qualified to appraise estates and insurance claims. He has entertained dozens of historical societies, libraries and clubs on the topics of antiques, folk art, Chinese export porcelain, American samplers, quilts and coverlets, and antique Christmas ornaments.
Light refreshments will be available for a donation to benefit the Friends programs and activities.
Anyone interested should call the Senior Center at 508-347-7575 to register or to get more information.
