BOSTON - A group of local Scouts recently found themselves on a field many in New England only dream of one day standing in.
Sturbridge Cub Scout Pack 161 proudly took part in the opening flag ceremony as color guard for the April 25, 2010 Red Sox game versus the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.
Representing Pack 161 was Noah Jacob, Liam Kent, Ryan Bonja, Andrew Turley, Kaspar Mazieka, Zackary Fitzgibbon, and leaders Erin Perrault, Jeff Bonja, and Chris Mazieka.
Through a Red Sox promotion program Pack den leader Jeff Bonja applied to have the Scouts on the field. Their participation coincided with Kid’s Day at Fenway.
This year, Pack 161 helped collect and distribute food in cooperation with the REAS foundation to seniors in need during the holiday season and also raised money via a number of local businesses and pack families to purchase a new Pinewood Derby track. The track was christened for this year’s March race.
The Pack has over 40 Cub Scouts and numerous parent volunteers that help the boys experience many outdoor and community service based activities that enrich both their lives and those of the community around them.
St. Anne and St. Patrick’s parish is Pack 161’s charter organization. Pack members wish to thank them and the community for their continued support.
