STURBRIDGE
- While it's not exactly the future Arthur C. Clarke
had in mind, 2010 will bring a panoply of changes and transitions
for Sturbridge.
As the first few months of the new decade accelerate into spring,
several long-anticipated projects and endeavors throughout town
will be coming to fruition – while others, after careful cultivation,
will begin to take root.
Of course, some consider the long-anticipated appointment of the
town administrator to be the most momentous issue facing Sturbridge.
“That's the major event,” said James Ehrhard, town representative
on the Tantasqua School Committee and chair of the search committee
scouring for the town's next de facto CEO.
Selectmen narrowly defeated an initial batch of prospects in December,
but are expected to analyze another group of candidates soon, Ehrhard
said.
Since the town administrator will carry out the policy dictated
by selectmen, his or her appointment will be “the main driver
of what happens this year,” Ehrhard said.
But just as important for the future of the town is economic development.
Many emphasize that this is the key to all future success –
and its progress will hinge on the soon-to-be-completed master plan.
